Midfield watch: value picks nobody's on

22 May 2026

Everyone's piling onto the same three names at the front, which is exactly why the smart money this week is staring at the middle of the grid. The midfield is where leagues are won — not because those drivers score the most, but because almost nobody in your league is brave enough to pick them.

Start with the obvious-but-ignored: a driver who's quietly out-qualified his teammate three weekends running while everyone was watching the title fight. The car's got a strong race trim, the track rewards it, and his ownership is low enough that a points haul here is basically free differential.

Then there's the chaos play. Tracks like this one turn into a lottery the moment the safety car comes out, and the drivers who start P11 to P15 are the ones who benefit most from a well-timed restart. You're not picking them to win. You're picking them to be in the right place when the race detonates.

The risk, of course, is that the midfield is the midfield for a reason — one bad pit stop and your value pick is your value problem. But that's the trade. Front-runners are safe and crowded. The points that move you up the table are hiding one row back.

Our advice: take one swing. Not your whole squad — one considered, slightly uncomfortable pick that your leaguemates will laugh at right up until it lands.
